Description

As winner of our 9th annual Summer Book Contest in 2023, this 12-year-old author wowed us with her storytelling and artistic talent. Our challenge was to write an Underdog story. Bradley Elisabeth Harris wrote about a wee mouse determined to save the village from a fire-breathing dragon. But wait, the dragon, well, I wouldn’t want to spoil it for the reader. As you can see, her illustrations are delightful and expressive. Did you notice the tiny surprise on every page? What a sweet little detail. A portion of your purchase of the winner’s books does go to the author. ~Sara

Category Description for Rrc Summer Contest Winners

It began as a simple idea, create a summer contest for young authors using a product we sell,  a make-your-own book kit from Lulu Jr..  The owners loved the idea and offered cash prizes! We decided there should be three age groups between 7 and 18 and came up with a theme and some rules. Every author who writes a story receives their own beautifully constructed book directly from Lulu Jr.. Here in the RRC office, we read a digital version of every story provided by Lulu Jr. and several judges score the entries. It is quite a process for us to read all of the entries during back-to-school season!

The summer book contest has grown and we have covered a variety of literary genres and themes. One overall winner is selected each year and Rainbow sells their book. That is who you see represented here. Sales generate a royalty stream for the author and they own all rights to their material. We hope you enjoy the quality writing and illustrating demonstrated in these titles. ~Sara
