Description

Focusing on the seven ways of living generously, the Generous Students Homeschool Kit is a fresh and fun approach to teaching valuable life skills. Divided into twenty-six weeks with four short lessons per week, Generous Students teaches children to be generous with their thoughts, words, time, money, influence, attention, and belongings. The first two weeks of the course are an introduction to generosity and provide an overview of the seven traits. Students will spend three weeks on each trait, with the final three weeks in the course summarizing what it means to live a generous life. Each week offers a simple lesson, related Bible verses, and a hero story from either the Bible, history, or current times. Along the way, students are encouraged to “live out” the generosity trait, enjoy extension activities like games or videos, write in their generosity journal, and read a thematic library book. While some activities are essential to the lesson, the extension activities and supplemental reading list are flexible. The Generous Students Homeschool Kit includes the Instructor Guide, three Generous Students Homeschool Edition Student Journals, and the Generous Student Generosity Heroes book.

The Instructor Guide is the heart of the kit and includes everything necessary to teach the lessons. There are 26 weeks of lessons in the course, with each week being divided into four daily lessons (days 4 and 5 are combined). Lessons include objectives, Scripture references, instructions for activities, and the read-aloud or library book recommendations. Activities are designed for all ages to learn together, although younger children may need some support. It also includes QR codes to the online portal for video/audio and related online resources.

The Student Journal will become the student’s record of learning for the course. Bright colors, fun illustrations, and photographs are visually engaging. The journals align with the lessons in the Instructor Guide. I love how each week begins with the student writing (or drawing) three things they are grateful for, which is a powerful activity for all of us to practice. The rest of the week relates to the lesson being taught and includes Scripture references, reflective questions with space to respond, and ways to practice the thematic generosity trait. The Student Journal also includes a generosity map in the back, with cute stickers to mark when each newly learned generosity trait lesson is completed. Families will appreciate the larger lines for writing and blank space for drawing, which perfectly meets the needs of different learning needs and ages. Parents may also choose to have younger children answer some questions orally. The Generous Students Homeschool Kit includes three student journals. Additional Generous Students Homeschool Edition Student Journals are also sold separately.

The Generous Student Generosity Heroes is a collection of amazing short stories that teach the traits through real-life examples. Each story is two pages in length and can easily be read aloud during lessons or devotions. The Generous Students online portal also includes an audio reading of the story. Numerous heroes are represented from biblical, historical, and current times. A sampling includes Amy Carmichael, Zacchaeus, Tim Tebow, Harriett Tubman, Clara Barton, and Jesus. The book concludes with space to write the story of another generosity hero: YOU. The Generosity Heroes book is not sold separately.
