This is the perfect reader for the child between leveled-readers and chapter books. There are illustrations, but more text than a picture book. You have a longer, more complex plot and character development with an interesting theme. This one is historical fiction about a friendship during the Civil War. Questions in the back help guide discussion or can be responded to in writing. ~Sara
Publisher's Description of Billy and the Rebel (Ready-to-Read Level 3)
This story is based on the life of Billy Bayly, a real boy who lived in Pennsylvania during the Civil War and had an unlikely friendship with a Southern soldier.>/p>
This series has 5 levels to develop your young reader:
Ready to Go (PK), Pre-Level 1 (PK-K), Level 1 (starting to read), Level 2
(reading independently), and Level 3 (reading proficiently). You might try out
a couple at a child’s current level and add one a level up so they have
something to work towards. They offer a nice mix of fictional stories and
non-fiction titles. Practice makes perfect! ~Sara
