In the workbooks, students will work on certain concepts for a number of pages, then they will be cued (it will be printed at the bottom of one of the workbook pages) when to read one of the storybooks which correspond to the targeted concept. After the storybook is read, the students then do the corresponding pages in the reading comprehension book.
The readers are black and white with simple but very engaging drawings. The books are happily longer than other readers I've used, and do a great job of reviewing the targeted concept without getting repetitious.
This is the fourth phonics program I've used. With eight kids, I needed something that was easy to use with kids at different levels of skill. While the program does not come with manipulatives as other programs offer, the teacher's manual does give ideas for more kinesthetic learners. Since I've already taught phonics to three of my kids, I do not really use the teacher's manuals, but I think they are a valuable tool for moms who are just starting their homeschooling journey.
