Description

A Bible in story form for your youngest children that is true to the Bible in substance, but simplifies or leaves out details beyond the young child's comprehension or concern. Before your child is able to read for himself, you can familiarize him with the Bible, in context, with The Child's Story Bible. You may also want to "build" felt pictures of the stories together using the Betty Lukens/Little Foks Bible Felt Set (see Felts section).

Publisher's Description of Child's Story Bible / Catherine F. Vos
Hundreds of thousands of children throughout the world have been introduced to the riches of the Bible through this classic Bible storybook. First published seventy years ago, the much-loved Child's Story Bible continues to instruct and delight today's children and parents.
Category Description for Veritas Bible Programs

If you are looking for a chronological Bible program taught in a comprehensive yet straightforward method, Veritas is an excellent choice. The purpose of this curriculum is to teach children to understand Scripture in a chronological order through a multisensory approach (using picture cards, memory songs, worksheets, and other activities). If you are studying Veritas history, this series would correlate well with it. There are five courses to this program with each teaching a section of the Bible. Each course includes 32 weeks of lessons and is meant to be covered in one year of study. There are four resources included with each course: Bible Cards, Teacher Guide, Audio CD, and an Enhanced CD.

The 32 Bible Cards (5x7 inches) are such a wonderful resource with or without the rest of the curriculum! Most have a colorful picture (except for a few black and white) with a Scripture reference on one side and an explanation with additional reading resources on the other side. For example, on one side of the card, there is a picture with the caption "Famine in Egypt, Genesis 41-47". The other side gives a brief account of the Scripture and lists other resources with page numbers for additional reading. The cards are also color coded to depict the correct time period, and to let students know this event is also found in Scripture. There are also chronological numbers on some cards to clarify if it relates to a history or Bible event so students can combine the cards. (This is especially helpful if using the history curriculum). You can laminate the cards, punch a hole in the top right corner and keep them on a large ring. The cards can also be used to play games like Go Fish or race to put the cards in chronological order.

The Audio CD is full of memory songs for children to memorize the chronology of Biblical events. They should sing along daily to these songs (especially for the first few weeks until they are memorized).

The Teacher's Manual includes the worksheets, Bible reading, projects, and tests. Answers to the worksheets, projects, and tests are also in the teacher manual. There are 32 lessons, and a sample schedule for a week is included. It is not necessary to do all the projects; pick and choose what works best for your family. The projects are not intimidating or complicated, but rather fun.

An Enhanced CD-ROM is also available for this course. This includes the memory songs, an electronic version of the teacher's manual, and a "how to" video providing guidance on how to use the program. This will work on most Windows and Macintosh computers.

We offer two complete kits: one with the Teacher Manual, the card set, and the audio CD (Homeschool Kit); and one with the Enhanced CD and the Cards (Homeschool Kit with CD).

Beautiful children's Bible and accurate retelling of the stories, not leaving out half the details.
Not many pictures but still my children enjoy the stories.

Good, living storybook Bible
A very nice way to begin shifting to more elevated language in the story Bible format. Her descriptions of the people and details of the settings have helped my children imagine themselves there, in a way which is helpful when the first response is “oh, I already know this story”.

This is one which will grow with them for a few years. They are 6 and 5 now; they understand the overarching story, and ask questions about words they don’t know.

Best children’s Bible story book I’ve found!!!
This engages our entire family. A few times while reading, I have stopped and said I don’t think that’s in the Bible! But every time I’ve checked, it’s been accurate. Love the way it tells The Story in a clear, engaging way, all while staying true to the KJV.

Better than children’s Bible stories
This has been a wonderful addition to our devotional time. We have only gotten as far as Judges but we enjoy how Vos pulls from different parts of the Word to put together whole stories. She also connects who was still alive when events took place and she adds adds the scripture references which makes looking the stories up much easier. When we do look up stories, we frequently find they are almost word for word paraphrases of the Bible. Only a few full color plates scattered through the text but chapters are short and very engaging. Even my four year old enjoys narrating from this.

So thankful!
We have tried a number of Children's Bible story books, but we are so thankful to have finally purchased this one by Catherine Vos. Inevitably, every other similar book we have used has left us rather disappointed with stories that stray from the actual text of the Scriptures. The Child's Story Bible stays true to God's Word. Vos' book is not only straight forward enough for young children to understand, but also thought provoking enough to keep the interest of adult readers. Comprised of 378 pages and broken down into 92 chapters, the book is thorough without being laborious. While some chapters I can read to my sons, ages 7 and 5, in one setting, others I break down into smaller chunks over several days. We all look forward to Bible time now! I no longer worry about whether or not the text will cause me to cringe and force me into a position where I am attempting to restate the reading in a more Biblically accurate way.

Fantastic!
We have used this Bible now for almost 10 years and keep using it. The scope of Scripture that it covers is fantastic. I recommend it to anyone who asks for a good children's Bible.

With every other story Bible I had read to my children before this one I found myself editing as I read and making references to other relevant parts of Scripture Not so with this one!! It has all the "asides" I would add with other books I use this book with my kids in pre-K and Kindergarten My 8 year old still likes to listen as I read it to my 5 year old!Love this resource!

This is our favorite story Bible It is ideal as a read aloud for ages 2 and up as well as for older children to read alone before they can read the Bible by themselves It familiarizes children with detailed accurate Bible stories After using this book over and over for years with our older children we've seen the benefit in their clear understanding of the flow of the Bible and where various stories fit Though many story Bibles can tend to water down or even misrepresent Scripture this one does not Highly recommended!

Why did you choose this?

The Child's Story BIble is the best children's bible I have found. An excellent bible to use in family devotions, homeschooling, etc and does an amazing job of communicating the gospel in every story.

Recommended by Carole Joy Seid

Best children's bible I know of. Excellent for families with kids of all ages.

Complete and the text is rich yet appropriate for young children.

Is the picture on the front printed on the hard cover or is there a dust jacket that’s it’s printed on?

Mine is a hardcover with the image printed on the cover. Not a blank hardcover with dust jacket.

Can you update the grade range? I have the Beginner's Bible and this one and this one should go farther than 2nd grade as it is chronological in its stories and more detailed in the stories than the Beginner's Bible.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We will raise the age range as you suggest.

Is this book in hardback or paperback?

This is a hardback book. I am enjoying it!
