The writing focus is on uppercase letters, while lowercase letters are taught toward the end of the year (beginning in Week 30) using the My First Lowercase Book. Crayon skills are developed while using special pages for scribbling and coloring. Strokes are practiced on "Mat Man" before ever making a letter. Capital letters and numbers are then practiced using a crayon. There are also extra activity pages which check readiness skills.

I Know My Numbers is a set of 10 small horizontal booklets (14 pgs ea), each centered on a number 1-10 that a student methodically works through as they practice writing and understanding these numbers. They are full of charming black and white illustrations and clear instruction. Little Chalk Bits is a good sized box (about 6.5"x 4"x 2) full of 1 pieces of thin (1cm) white chalk. This will go a long way! Little Sponge Cubes is a set of 100 (50 yellow/50 blue) small cubes (1cm) of kitchen sponge. Just right for tiny fingers to erase with!

HWOT solid program but written for classroom

Handwriting without tears
This is a great book and very helpful with small children. Being a teacher, I love to find new ways of doing things! Glad I picked this one up!

I have to say that I had this book for over a year before I really opened it and used it as it was meant to be used When I first got it I didn't realize that there was a weekly lesson plan in the back and so I felt really turned off by the whole thing Well now my 4 year old (not the child I had originally got it for) has been using it for 7 weeks and WE love it! I wish I would have been more careful to have noticed its value earlier I love that there are specific activities songs and drills for every day I also love how there are many manipulatives (the wooden pieces the CD's the books etc) are incorporated in this curriculum My 4 year old asks me EVERYDAY - weekends too if we can do school because she gets to sing dance write and do! As far as prep time there is not a whole lot required I do like to look at it ahead of time and make sure there isn't something in the day's plan that I don't have And that almost NEVER happens It is funny because my older kids will often join in when it is time to sing and sometimes my older daughter (age 11) helps the 4 year old when I am busy with the middle two HWT has fun songs that all my kids love and this guide incorporates so many of those I cannot believe how much her crayon grip and writing has improved in just the past month and the best thing is she feels and looks comfortable writing Yeah!!

I owned HWT prek in the past, but gave to a friend and now trying to buy it for my last child I find that the company caters to schools more than homeschoolers and the prices are ridiculous. What all do I really need to buy for prek now?

Is my first school book and my first lower case book included?
The actual student books (i.e. My First School Book and My First Lower-case Book) are NOT included. This is the Teacher Guide for those books, however.
why is this particular teachers guide so expensive compared to the others?
There are more instructional pages in this book as well as a different type of binding which may account for the difference in price.
