Maggie and Pie and the Cookie Contest (Puzzle Readers Level 1)
Highlights Puzzle Readers offer an innovative approach to learning that integrates puzzles and stories to develop motivated, confident readers. These Level 1 books are perfect for kids who are reading simple sight words and sounding out decodable text.
Each of these leveled readers feature a short storyline with an assortment of puzzles incorporated into the story. As the reading level goes up, the puzzles in the book get harder. The puzzles could be hidden pictures, mazes, and more. Each book also includes a bonus activity like a joke, recipe, or craft idea. Page count varies between 24 – 32 pages, higher levels having more pages. Answers to the puzzles are in the back of each book.
Level P focuses on letter and sound recognition, storytelling the pictures, and simple shape or letter recognition puzzles. Features very simple dialogue with word bubbles rather than sentences and paragraphs. Approximately 110-120 on the Lexile reading scale (guided reading levels D-E).
Level 1 focuses on sounding out letters and syllables, reading sight words, expressive reading, and visual puzzles that support concentration and persistence. Features short, easy-to-read sentences and paragraphs. Approximately 250-360 on the Lexile reading scale (guided reading levels G-I).
Level 2 focuses on reading longer sentences, increasing fluency, summarizing events into sequence, and solving more complicated puzzles that relate to vocabulary building and problem-solving. Approximately 420-440 on the Lexile reading scale (guided reading levels I-K). ~ Brianna
