Don't hesitate
I got it for spelling concerns but I really liked and appreciated the reading component as well. I didn't have him work through the whole book. Instead I used it as more of a remediation tool by picking and choosing which lessons I felt would most benefit him based on the Megawords placement test booklet. However, I would not hesitate to use this as a spelling/reading program. It's been a couple years since he used this and when I retested him to see if he needed remediation anywhere in this series, I discovered he did really well. I really believe this strengthened his reading/spelling foundation and wouldn't hesitate to recommend or encourage others to try it.Write your review here. It must be at least 10 characters long. Consider whether you would recommend this product and what you like or dislike about it.

Basic Phonics for older students
My 12 yr old learning disabled daughter saves face with this program, as it appears to be geared for older students. Much like Explode the Code, which is terrific program. It covers the basics very well, in a logical sequential order with a lot of reinforcement.

Good, easy to use spelling program
For subjects like spelling, a workbook is the best approach. This doesn't take a whole lot of time on the parent's part, but will require an occasional lesson for particular rules or problems. I don't do tests, but take about 20 words from the list at the beginning of each chapter. Any misspelled words go on a list where they must be spelled correctly out loud for 3 consecutive days, then 3 consecutive weeks, and than 3 consecutive months. Any misspellings go back to daily review and must be written 3 times.
