Product Features
* Objective questions in the 12 literature tests have a greater emphasis this year on theme and literary techniques. Your teen will focus on significant ideas in light of biblical principles and the craft of the writer, expanding his own composition toolbox.
* Other objective questions evaluate your teen's recall of key details, key lines, and authors, building his literary background and literary taste.
* Essay questions on the unit literature tests often call for your teen to compare works, identify and explain the significance of key lines, or explain a work's theme or symbolism, evaluating ideas from a biblical perspective.
* Though each literature test can stand alone, it is designed to be combined with its corresponding Workbook V for Handbook of Grammar and Composition test for one test grade. In eleventh grade, literature receives the greater emphasis, reflecting your teen's growing reasoning ability to consider life's issues.
* Two nine-week exams and semester and final exams provide periodic cumulative review to encourage long-term retention of learning.
* Since each quiz and test specifies the section of the textbooks it covers, you can easily adjust quizzes and tests to your schedule for greater flexibility.
* The 17 content quizzes (of 10 questions each) reflect the greater depth of the literary coverage this year, requiring your teen to read selections with greater discernment regarding both ideas and techniques.
Theme-organized middle school texts cover primarily Western Literature (short stories, poems, essays, the KJV Bible, and excerpts) from the classics and Christian authors of the 16th to 20th centuries. The grade 9 text, also theme focused, then lays a foundation for proper literature analysis and engagement in high school. World Literature overviews varied Western, Greek, and Roman writings, with the genre decidedly emphasizing poetry, excerpts, and short stories. Selections often highlight Christian themes and missionary writings. American Literature begins with a Puritan and patriotic focus, culminating in the early 21st century. The program ends with British Literature, a careful examination of poetry, religiously significant writings, and more from the Anglo Saxons to the 20th century. Answer keys provide a quick, economical way to check answers. If literature is daunting, teacher’s volumes (see website for options) provide plentiful support and assurance. These volumes include lesson objectives, author information, reviews, answers, and additional writing topic suggestions. Grades 7 and 8 can also test student's comprehension and speed regularly in the Student Quiz and Test Book and keys.
