Description
Weasel Song by young author Wyatt Ahrens is the 2024 winner of the Rainbow Resource Center Summer Book Contest. As a musician himself, Wyatt’s writing has a lyrical quality and the instrument played by his main character, a weasel named Wilfred, was inspired by the Irish bouzouki. The character is determined to be true to himself, even going against the wishes of the King. When faced with a potentially dangerous foe, Wilfred finds out they have more in common than different. Wyatt’s illustrations are detailed and expressive. His message about solving problems is definitely heard! ~Sara
Category Description for Rrc Summer Contest Winners
It began as a simple idea, create a summer contest for young authors using a product we sell, a make-your-own book kit from Lulu Jr.. The owners loved the idea and offered cash prizes! We decided there should be three age groups between 7 and 18 and came up with a theme and some rules. Every author who writes a story receives their own beautifully constructed book directly from Lulu Jr.. Here in the RRC office, we read a digital version of every story provided by Lulu Jr. and several judges score the entries. It is quite a process for us to read all of the entries during back-to-school season!
The summer book contest has grown and we have covered a
variety of literary genres and themes. One overall winner is selected each year
and Rainbow sells their book. That is who you see represented here. Sales
generate a royalty stream for the author and they own all rights to their
material. We hope you enjoy the quality writing and illustrating demonstrated
in these titles. ~Sara
