Publisher's Description of Complete STEM Missions

PROBLEM SOLVING WITH SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, AND MATH SKILLS

Complete STEM Missions is a bind-up of the three workbooks in our STEM Missions series. Now your child can build their STEM skills with life science, earth science, and physical science topics all in one workbook. Each mission asks your child to read science passages, answer questions about the passages, solve math problems, and use the knowledge gained to create or design a solution (engineering) to a real-word problem. Using the knowledge gained your child will develop problem solving skills in science and beyond.

Category Description for Stem Missions

A science workbook series for upper elementary students that combines short readings on science concepts, follow-up questions to test knowledge, math problems using the concept and a "design your own" challenge based on the concept. For example, in Earth Science, the first chapter is about severe weather. Students will read short sections about what weather is, types of severe weather, and severe weather safety, all with follow-up activities. Then they are given a mission: to design a system or device that can protect a house from the dangerous effects of thunderstorms. Each mission is two pages in length. On the first page, they brainstorm ideas and refine their solution. On the second page, they draw or write about their solution, and then evaluate it. Chapters are about six pages long and there are eight chapters per book. An answer key is included at the end of each book. Hopefully there will be more added to the series - I think these look like fun! - Jess
