Step into the world of WWII espionage with this educational choose-your-own-adventure. Like other choose-your-own-adventure books, as students read, they will encounter scenarios where their choices lead to different outcomes. The big difference with this book (and others in the series) is that each option leads to an outcome that is based in real history—every scenario your student will encounter in this book actually happened to real people during WWII. With three story paths that lead to 22 possible endings, this book is full of historical places, people, and terminology. As students form a more personal connection with this era by moving through a story they choose themselves, learning becomes a natural result. The book includes a timeline, a glossary, a bibliography, and an index, so the learning doesn’t have to end when the story does. 112 pgs, pb.
War is a time of secrets. Advances in technology during the height of World War II provide new methods for spies to keep secrets, steal information, and destroy enemy plans. You're about to go under cover. Will you: Become a resistance fighter in Denmark, revealing Germany's false claims of protection? Work as a "double cross" agent, pledging loyalty to one country but actually spying for another? Join the U.S. Office of Strategic Services, shuttling weapons to the Allies and sabotaging German transportation?
I loved these kinds of choose-your-own-adventure books when I was a kid and incorporating historical events and facts into the stories makes them even more entertaining. Each book focuses on a different event in history, but it's up to the reader to choose the point of view to take. The story will progress for a few pages and then the reader must make a decision about what course they want to take. Then, the reader turns to the page directed in the book and sees what happens based on the choice made. Choose whether to be a civilian, patriot or British soldier during the Battle of Bunker Hill, whether or not to rush for a lifeboat on the Titanic, what job to take as an Irish Immigrant, and much more. On average, each book has about 3 story paths, 35-45 choices, and 15 different endings. This series will help students see historical events in a new, real way and is just plain fun to read. Each book is about 112 pgs, pb. ~ Rachel
