Publisher's Description of Ancient Civilizations and the Bible Teacher Guide

Unlike standard curricula, this Teacher guide supplies a structure that can be easily modified for the particular needs of your students, helping to spark their discovery and exploration the amazing events of ancient times.
This is the first of the three studies and covers the time period from Creation to Christ. Diana shows the hand of God as it influenced events from earliest man to the empires of Greece and Rome.
Years ago when I prepared to teach ancient history for the first time I reviewed myriad titles looking for a resource that was both engaging and reliable Ancient History and the Bible emerged as the leader of the pack This new edition builds upon the strengths of the original Diana Waring's passion for learning and teaching pulls students and teachers alike into the process of discovering how the Bible is not merely the supreme book on moralitybut is also the incomparable authority on history As our tour guide through a chronology of ancient history Diana offers students a learning process that honors each individual's unique learning style And recognizing that learning comes in layers she opens the door to learning in Phase 1 of her learning cycle as she introduces key concepts points us to choice sources (ranging from books to internet links) entertains us with her which feature sometimes humorous but always captivating tales of significant people places and events (My two elementary-aged sons were delighted with her CDs) As students grapple with new material Diana offers guidance for teachers in the form of questions for discussion and challenges students with questions for self-evaluation Student self-evaluation concludes each phase of learning Phase 2 challenges students to undertake a research project related to the time period studied To augment learning in this phase students find a corresponding vocabulary list and a timeline which references the work of Archbishop James Ussher Next in Phase 3 students have the opportunity to engage in hands-on learning through mapping art and music appreciation art projects science and/or cooking projects (We often skipped this portion and still reaped great rewards from the curriculum) In Phase 4 the last step in the cycle students solidify their learning by performing their discoveries They select from a variety of creative expressions including (but not limited to) written dramatic musical visual artistic and inventive options Students who complete this program are likely to emerge with a love of ancient history and new respect for the historical accuracy of the Bible
