Just what we needed
I needed some structure to our language program. This is exactly what we needed. I can see improvement in my three sons already. They are each in a different level. I used the placement tests. It has dictation, grammer, spelling, poetry and journaling. I purchaced the workbooks and the teacher manuals. You could simply use the teacher manual and have the child write on notebook paper if you wanted to. I like being able to hand them a workbook to work on sometimes. I am very happy with the program, I would recommend it.

Necessary
The Teachers book for the Learning Language Arts through Literature is absolutely essential for you to work through the course. It is easy to understand how to use the curriculum. But it is teacher intense. You will need to work with the student daily. seems thorough. The writing portion isn't very structured. Not much direction is given to the student nor a rubric to help the student.
