Category Description for Novare Science Courses

Novare Science emphasizes that science education needs to be renewed using research, scientific evidence, and forward-thinking strategies while keeping God at the helm. Students are taught to see God in creation, while learning current scientific theories including the evolutionary theory. Using a mastery approach, students learn fewer topics in more depth than typical courses while reviewing previously learned key concepts. Self-created lab journals and reports are suggested to prepare students for high school and college sciences. Life Science, Physical Science, and Earth Science are taught at the middle school level. At the high school level, Novare takes a Physics first approach to science and offers two pathways for students: Grade-Level Pathway and the Accelerated Pathway. Parents and teachers are encouraged to read From Wonder to Mastery by John Mays to learn about the program philosophy.

Category Description for Novare Science - Middle School

Novare Middle School Science teaches students to see God in creation within the context of current secular scientific theories. Using a mastery approach, students learn fewer topics in more depth than typical courses and review previously learned key concepts. Novare’s recommended sequence is Life Science, Physical Science, and Earth Science with Astronomy. Students beginning Novare Science in 7th grade, may choose any 2 of the 3 courses, although the author does not recommend Physical Science in 8th grade if the student will use Novare Science in High School. At the high school level, Novare Science follows a Physics first approach. Required and supplemental components vary by course.

Category Description for Novare Earth Science

Novare Earth Science offers an engaging, well-illustrated earth science course. As students learn earth science concepts and topics, they will be inspired to responsibly care for and protect God’s amazing world. From our solar system to our home planet, students see God’s hand in our creation, as they learn the current scientific consensus on geological history, climate change, pollution, and environmental justice. There is an in-depth study of historical geology which includes differing views on the age of the earth, uranium dating, and the geological column.  Students are taught to see God in creation, while learning current secular scientific theories that support an old-earth creation. Students will create lab reports and the introduction to the textbook provides step-by-step guidance. Lab instructions are found in the Digital Resources. An optional Student Lab Report Handbook is available for families who want support. Required components include the Student Textbook and the Digital Resources, which are available individually or in a convenient package. An optional lab kit with most of the harder to find materials is available.
