Very Happy with Horizons Math 4
My daughter and I are extremely pleased with our switch to Horizons for her 4th grade year. The daily lessons are laid out well, engaging and colorful. I love the repetition of previous lessons, as they are short and sweet but effective. My daughter now looks forward to math. This is a huge win from previous years. I would highly recommend this program.

We have used it k-4 & like it. 4th grade teacher's guide doesn't have a "copy" of the lesson it just lists the answers which is a little harder to follow.

different than lower grades
We loved Horizons K-3, but this one is different. I find the teacher's manual useless. I appreciated the 3rd grade teacher's manual with the exact worksheets with the answers filled in, so I could follow along and answer any questions as my child worked, and I could read the problem aloud and work it out with her, as I was seeing the same thing she was seeing - also grading was much simpler. With this teacher's manual, the answers are difficult to follow, it's literally the answers and nothing else. And there's not much as far as explanations for concepts for the teachers manual either, (this is actually true for the lower grades as well), so if there's a new concept that is introduced, and the teacher is not familiar, you're Googling! The worksheets are similar to 3rd grade, but significantly longer. 3rd grade was one sheet front and back, 4th grade is up to several pages front and back. I'm disappointed, because up until this year Horizons has been our favorite, now I'm looking into other options. Math is something I want laid out with clear and concise explanations.

Perfect curriculum for elementary math!
We love the fun, colorful worksheets and we really like how it touches on a variety of learned concepts each day, so our kids remember them! There are no units that are drilled down and forgotten here. The worksheets take about 20-30 mins daily, so it’s easy to supplement some extra math facts and manipulatives into your daily routine. Enjoy this wonderful program!

Review for horizons math 4 boxed set
It was pretty good. We got this for my 8 years old. A bit easy for her. I think box 5 would be more at her level.

I have been very pleased with Horizons Math The lessons are presented in a great format that doesn't require much time for each lesson My third grader is completing the fourth grade workbook 2 and is progressing amazingly well My 12 year old daughter used Horizons Math from kindergarten to sixth grade She is now taking Algebra with a different math curriculum I attribute her success in math to her years taking Horizons Math It prepared her for the higher math

My 8yo daughter has been using Horizons Math since Kindergarten and I LOVE this program More colorful than Saxon and much easier to understand My daughter did the K and 1st grade books in one year I like the review in each lesson as well as the new concept covered Not too lengthy as to frustrate a child but only a few problems per section One of the teacher's manuals has reproducible drill pages extra worksheets etc if your child needs it The only problem that my daughter had was this: going from the second grade book to the third grade book the print got smaller and the space given for answers also got smaller Students are asked to do more problems/sections than in second grade and it was a bit daunting at first Being only seven and doing the 3rd grade book her fine motor skills of writing her numbers pretty small just wasn't there But with patience and practice this skill has been achieved and she is ready to move on to the 4th grade text for next year I would HIGHLY recommend this curriculum to any home schooling parent

I have found Horizons math to be thorough and enjoyable Lessons are colorful and include several different exercises for example a single lesson may cover time money addition multiplication and word problems This keeps each function fresh in the student's mind The only problem I've found is that each set is about a year ahead of my child's level so in 4th grade she's using level 3 etc Also additional practice in multiplication has been necessary Overall it's the best program I've found thus far

Why did you choose this?

did it last year and liked

We've used Horizons for grades 1-3 and are happy with it. Simple, spiral method and colorful pages are inviting.

I have used Horizons Math with my older children and it has given them a strong foundation in math and made it much easier to transition to algebra because of how it has been introduced gently…

Love this program!

What is included in the box set for math 4? I'm looking for both student workbooks and the teacher's guide.

I bought the Homeschool Curriculum Kit -Math 4 -. Includes: two student workbooks and the Teacher's guide.

Does this curriculum incorporate a daily speed drill into the lesson?

No, but it does offer a lot flash card review to memorize math facts. There are supplemental worksheets of the same facts that are being drilled with the cards. You could easily time either of these.

what grade level does this go to?

The Horizons Math 4 is for 4th grade. However, it is a fast-paced course and may be more advanced compared to other curriculum at grade level.

Is this common core math?

No. A few of the explanations are a little different than the way I learned them years ago, but nothing as bewildering as Common Core.
