Horizons Math 1 Boxed Set
Looking for an exciting, comprehensive math curriculum for your first grader? The best-selling Horizons 1st Grade Math Set from Alpha Omega Publications has everything you need. Laying a solid math foundation, Horizons allows your child to master basic math skills like counting, adding, and subtracting numbers in no time at all. Through the process of introduction, review, and reinforcement, the Horizons 1st Grade Math Set also teaches your child more challenging concepts such as time, fractions, sets, graphs, sequencing, and estimation. Lessons 1-160 in this Alpha Omega curriculum are filled with colorful, bright illustrations that capture your child's attention and perforated pages are easily removed to allow for easier completion of math problems.
But that's not all. The teacher's guides in this curriculum make teaching math simple with a helpful daily lesson planner, practical teaching tips, student readiness evaluation test, answer keys, and additional worksheets (worksheets may also be purchased separately). Best of all, lesson objectives, needed materials, and suggested activities are clearly outlined so that Horizons practically teaches itself.
Covers numeracy beyond 100, cardinal/ordinal numbers, more complex addition/subtraction (carrying/borrowing), time, fractions, graphs, sequence, estimation, sets, and measurement. A Worksheet Packet is also available which contains print copies of the reproducible master worksheets in the Teacher’s Guide.

My daughter with ADD did ok with it if I made the problems into games. I might look into a curriculum with games built in so you didn't have to think so hard as a parent. I do think this curriculum is fantastic, just maybe not as interactive as a child with ADD/ADHD may need.
No. They come as a big thick book. I take the manuals an spiral bind them.
Horizons was published before Common Core and has not been revised to align to CC. However, it is a fast-paced curriculum that provides excellent coverage of math basics and possibly meets and exceeds CC. Strengths include balanced instruction and practice, a colorful workbook, "just-enough" teacher's manual, and fast pacing. It's only weakness (in my opinion) is less emphasis on problem solving skills and critical thinking than some math curricula.
I have found that having the manipulatives in a boxed set has been very helpful. We have used the same set for the past three years. The convenience of not having to collect items for each lesson (if purchased separately) has been very nice. I also like that is has been used multiple years.
No, they are located here on the website, I can not include a link, but if you type in on Google "assessment test for horizons math pdf" it is the first link! Or you can purchase at the product I recommended. Hope this helps,
Yes, but children learn to read from grades K-3 and then transfer from that to reading to learn, and therefore I would still make sure you are reading the instructions to them. 1 out of 4 of my children could read on his own, but he is an exceptional student.
Teachers Manual has extra practice sheets, answers, and gives excerckses to do with student prior to the workbook pages. I didn’t use all those every lesson with Horizons 1 so for Horizons 2 I didn’t purchase the TM.
The loose leaf worksheets are printed copies of masters that are provided in the Teacher's Manual. It is not necessary to purchase the worksheets. Some people choose to not use them at all while others just copy them from the TM. However, we do carry the print copies for those who do not wish to print their own but who want to use them.
