This is a most engaging alphabet puzzle. The thick wooden pieces are die-cut into unique shapes, each representing an item of farm imagery (starting at left, an apple tree for A, barn for B, etc.) Each piece has a capital letter on it, and the items are arranged from A to Z in a left-to-right pattern. Pieces are colorful enough, thick enough and fun enough for everyday play. Storage tray measures 6 x 20. ~ Bob
Publisher's Description of Farm A to Z Alphabet Puzzle
The Farm A to Z is a complete farm playset and a learning toy in one. Each of the 26 chunky pieces is a familiar animal, plant, piece of equipment or person on the farmfrom A for apple tree and C for cow, to T for tractor and V for veterinarian. Made from eco-friendly rubber wood with child safe stains.
These beautiful, sturdy puzzles are made of rubberwood and stained in bright, inviting colors. Children can practice their ABCs while working on fine motor skills and visual/spatial reasoning. Pieces fit together loosely (great for little ones) and are about ¾" thick. The ABC puzzles have upper case letters on one side and lower case letters on the reverse. Each puzzle comes in a wooden tray for neat storage and a size-appropriate place to work. Animal Parade has animals from A to Z that stand and stack on each other (a jellyfish, on an iguana, on a hippo) and measures about 5" x 23". The Butterfly is 8" x 11.25", and the Dinosaur is 7.75" x 15.75". These puzzles will stand up to years of use.
The Alphabet Island Phonics program is wonderful I started the program when my daughter was 4 and my son was 3 and completed Level 1 that first year The program made it fun for them both to learn their letters and sounds although it was difficult for my 4 year old to master the handwriting part Honestly that wasn't a priority for me that will come with time My daughter is now 6 and my son is 4 1/2 and they both just completed the first grade workbook and they are reading 3 4 5 and 6 letter words My six year old will be entering first grade in the fall and we will be using the second grade workbookThe program does require some initial preparation for each lesson in order to become familiar with the characters I found that as time went on there was less prep time needed I also ended up tailoring the program to fit my children's needs In other words if they weren't getting something or it seemed like they were drifting I would skip items or change the way I taught it to them There is quite a bit of stuff to do with each lesson so it is easy to pick and choose what is best for your childrenAs far as cost goes I've been happy that the set covers 3 years (K 1st and 2nd grades) Plus I will be able to use it for my other children and only have to purchase the appropriate workbooks I have also supplemented with books that they can read to practice their newly learned skills All in all we feel this was a GREAT purchase
