Description

Continuing the excellent phonics, reading, and language arts instruction of the LLATL Blue Program, the Red Program incorporates the same effective methodologies and teaching strategies. The user-friendly teacher's manual (Red Book) with 36 weekly lesson plans is comprehensive and thorough with little teacher preparation needed. The heftier Student Activity Book reviews skills taught in the first grade program and reinforces new skills with a similar assortment of excellent activities: word wheels, flip books, games, and cut and paste activities. More emphasis is placed on poetry, sentence structure, grammar and writing - all learned in the context of stories. Spelling is also emphasized more with weekly word lists, visual representation of words, and puzzles and games for review/reinforcement. The six readers are longer but just as engaging with soft-hued color print rather than black & white. Periodic skill assessments give the teacher the tools to decide what the student needs to review. The program includes the Red Book (teacher's manual), the Student Activity Book, and six readers. The Student Activity Book and readers are sold separately for additional students. The Read-Aloud Library is integral to the program but sold separately (or available from the library). ~ Janice

Gentle approach to language arts
My daughter is enjoying this book. Her reading level is much higher than the target learner, but for her it is a gentle start for grammer and spelling. She loves the cutting and crafty activities, (but my son at this age would have hated it, so I guess it depends on the kid!).
I love that it covers all the language arts, and mixes the dryer grammer topics in with fun reading, making them more applicable. Occasionally a lesson is a little long, but I can always omit an activity if I need to shorten.
Has become my daughter's favorite part of homeschool.

Wonderful program, engaging
We love this program so far. It is so engaging. Short lessons teach what they need to but don't bore students. My students are excited to open their books each day and do their lessons. Great book suggestions too. Love the little readers that come with it. So glad I found this program. And for a great price too.

Learning Language Arts Through Literature Red Program
This is my third time to use LLATL Red Program. My two oldest are strong readers and I know that this program will make my third child a strong reader too. She is excited and it made my day when the boys started talking to her about the fun stories in it that they read and remembered. So, this programs precious stories also made a memory for my boys that I didn't know about, until now.

My son loves it.
The box is all inclusive with the exception of a few books that I can get easily at the library. I really like the open and go set up. It lists what you need at the beginning of the week and there is very little prep work on my part. My son has really loved this series and now my daughters are also asking for their appropriate grade levels too.

Why did you choose this?

My husband and I attended a homeschool conference back in May. at the curriculm fair we were talking to someone about our son who has special needs and learning challenges. We were looking for a…

Highly Recommended all inclusive Language Arts.

My husband did this program when he was homeschooled and thought it would work well for our daughter.

Our family loves the LLATL program.

MY 2nd Grader is coming from Abeka, she did very well, but I think this program could be more a interesting approach for her. Will LLATL be challenging enough and would the red book be a good fit? I have seen mixed reviews for this curriculum, but I love the layout.

Hello, we also came from Abeka, and switched over to LLATL for 1st. My children and I have loved LLATL! The curriculum is holistic, thorough, and very easy to implement in the home. My background is in Speech-Language Pathology, and I feel that LLATL does a wonderful job matching material to language-learning development. This year my second-grader completed the Orange book. We did the Red book in first grade, finished early and began the Yellow book also in first. In my opinion, the Red book will likely be too easy for 2nd, but I encourage you to look through the sample pages and decide accordingly. Hope this helps xo

Would this be good for a child who is younger then 2nd grade but already knows how to read, all letters of alphabet and sounds as well as how to write them?

I think it would probably be fine. I would just check the books required and see if you feel they are developmentally appropriate for your child.
