Great!
We used this when we had a pre-Kindergartener and first grader. I plan to redo it next year with our fourth, second, and kindergartener. It was fun, interesting, great simple hands on projects, and stories that aren't always taught in schools. I love that you can tailor it to meet the needs of the specific ages of the children and there are storybook and chapter book read aloud suggestions (along with a schedule for reading them).

7 Questions
Why did you choose this?

I needed a simple trek through US History which included stories and suggestions for activities.

Appears to be kind, through and accessible

We are part of a homeschool co-op and the History teachers chose this curriculum for the year

A friend is using this. I am looking for curriculum to help get my child excited to do school.

How many days a week is the program? On sample it shows just 3 days.

Yes, the sample shows a suggested 3 days a week. However with the optional read-alouds, picture books and readers you have more than enough material for 5 days a week. Some of the activities may take more than one day also. I like the three day a week format. It gives mom some freedom to skip a day here or there or go on a history field trip.

Is this secular or faith based?

This is certainly a faith-based curriculum. A lovely curriculum we thoroughly enjoyed!!

Are the readings listed in the reading schedule above included in the curriculum or do all the reading selections need to be purchased separately?

The stories are all included. You will need only the Student Notebook which includes coloring pages, space to record narration and copywork, and the activity pages for fifty states. Additionally, you will need Smart about Fifty States (item #053263) and state flag stickers (item #027052).

Is there a next step or a next level for this program?

No. This is a stand alone curriculum. I used it this past school year for my kindergartner, and we'll be using Truthquest History for 1st grade.

I'd like to get this but I have concerns about historical accuracy and relevance; there's some doubt Pocahontas actually existed, and...Paul Bunyan? I might get it if it's just those two that are off, but I'm wondering if there's any other questionable stories.
Does anyone have a list of the extra books suggested from this guide?

Pocahontas and the Strangers
Squanto, Friend of the Pilgrims
A Lion to Guard US
Tolliver's Secret
The Cabin Faced West
The Courage of Sarah Noble
The Matchlock Gun
Little House on the Prairie
On the Banks of Plum Creek
In Grandma's Attic
