Learn to Solder Kit (Model AK-100)
- Small parts. Not for children under 3 years.
At some point, if you want to progress past beginner electronics kits, you're going to have to learn how to solder (or, in my case, when my blender broke down). This kit makes it easy to learn by starting with a simple project (a flashing European siren), and giving you all the tools you need to do it. The kit includes a soldering iron, side cutters, solder, a circuit board, solder wick, a speaker, wire, a battery snap, resistors, capacitors, semiconductors, and an instruction booklet, which contains a lengthy introduction to the project, including identifying resistor and capacitor values, reading resistor colors, using the soldering iron, soldering practice, and a theory of operation, before the user even begins to assemble the PC board. Instructions for this step are found towards the end of the booklet, with troubleshooting tips, unsoldering practice, a glossary and a quiz. If done correctly, the siren will sound and the lights will flash. This looks like a great kit to learn basic soldering. Maybe I should get one for more practice! - Jess
