A tactical game of strategy. Board looks like a blank Scrabble board. The colored game pieces are all different shapes - like the game pieces in the computer game Tetris - which players take turns playing so their color game pieces are only touching at the corners, not ever along a flat side. The object of the game is to block the other player's pieces while protecting your own - and end the game with the lowest remaining total surface area for your game pieces. Instructions are straight forward, and the rules are easy to learn. Game board measures 10" x 10". 2 to 4 players. Europe's 2002 Game of the Year!
This game is also available in a 2-player travel version.
Very challenging and loads of fun for all ages. Great for playing with the grandkids! I love games that can be played in such a way as to allow conversation during the game.

Ages 5 through adult? Takes less than a minute to learn? Those are some pretty big claims to live up to and Blokus does! As I chose new games for our family game night I got this because I'd heard that my husband and I were sure to enjoy it but I was a bit skeptical about whether or not our children would be ready for it My husband and I played first The rules are super simple - they did take less than a minute to learn yet we were challenged by the game for hours that first night Our brains were racing as we figured out the basic strategy Now we are still suprised at how quickly one can go from 'winning' to 'losing'! When we introduced it to our kids we were pleasantly surprised to see them understand the object of the game and start thinking so spatially and strategically! The 5 and 6 year-olds were fully capable of playing and the 3 year-old was able to be on my husband's team and put pieces where he directed On top of all of this it's just beautiful to look at those bright translucent colors all intermingled shimmering on the board at the end of the game! Blokus is truly a family game! Usually there is someone in the family who groans for a game but everyone in our house cheers for Blokus! Though I want to give a perfect review because I think Blokus it is a rare gem of a game I want to mention that it becomes slightly frustrating for my 5-year-old if he puts a piece in the wrong place and tries to move it Often he moves 3 or 4 pieces on accident and he needs the help of an adult to put it all right again Also we keep the game up off the carpet due to the potential for pieces to break if they are stepped on Neither con is enough to cause me to frown upon the game though because the pros of fun strategy and a rapidly changing game for adults and lots of spacial thinking and discovery for the kids far outweigh the cons in my opinion!

Another SIMPLE but strategic and relatively short game All the things that I look for in a game! We love it! It's colorful and sturdy and simple to learn Although we've played a good 10x we have not managed to figure out the best strategy and are often surprised just when we think we've got the upper hand on the game Be careful with the pieces because some are small! But as long as you're sure they're all there when you put the game away you'll never have a problem My kids continue to get drawn into this game even though they are not big strategy game players! I love to see their minds working! Enjoy!

This is a great game! It's so attractive in design and color And the strategy is really fun to learn Each time you play will be totally different and just when you think you have lots of space to 'roam' with your pieces your opponents crowd around you and you have to think fast to survive Play time is only about 20-30 minutes Most of our family can play this one from Dad and Mom down to our 7 year old Just keep it away from the toddlers or you'll be missing some of those pretty pieces!
