Description

Reason for Handwriting Teacher Guidebook gives guided instruction for the Reason for Handwriting Pre-K and kindergarten student worktexts. In front of the book, parents/teachers find tips for pre-writing skills, letter positioning, guidelines for proper positioning, alternate forms of handwriting practice, and essential tips for lesson planning. Following these pages are lesson plans for preschool, then kindergarten worktexts. Lowercase letters are introduced first. Each of the 55 preschool lessons focuses on a different letter with instruction on letter formation and how to complete the work text page. The lessons also include fun animal facts about an animal starting with the same letter. For example, the letter “s” has some interesting information about snails and the student worktext has a snail coloring page on the back side of the handwriting practice page. The 33 weeks of kindergarten lesson plans include lessons for 5 days a week. Reviewing previous taught letters, letter formation instruction, weekly Bible verses, whiteboard practice, and suggestions for extended activities are also included. In the back of the book there are more detailed descriptions to teach proper formation of letters and other reproducible resources. Some activities refer to items in the Ultimate Handwriting Resource Kit available on the publisher’s website. AReasonFor.com also has free downloadable resources for extra handwriting practice. ~ Gina

Category Description for A Reason for Handwriting

A Reason for Handwriting is an appealing, full-color Christian handwriting program that provides instruction and practice in traditional style handwriting with about 30 lessons per level (except for K, which has 49). Each level has a letter designation, with a whole book for transition from manuscript to cursive in between B and CThe updated 2023 Transition Book (Level T) is designed to replace either Level B (preferred) or Level C (a later transition for students needing extra manuscript practice). If using the Level T book to replace Level C, students will review manuscript prior to starting cursive, midway through the year. Starting in Book C, all handwriting is cursive. In the more advanced levels, discussion questions accompany the weekly Bible verse.

In the Transition Book and Book C, lines are 3/8" while manuscript books have lines that are 5/8". Each student workbook (except K level) contains a large back section of border sheets (one per lesson featuring nicely lined and bordered papers) as a weekly challenge for students to write their scripture verses on them "in their best handwriting." Scripture verses are taken from the Living Bible translation.

The Student Desk Card shows manuscript and cursive letters on a personal-sized card, or you can put the big letters up on the wall using the alphabet wall sheets. One comprehensive teacher's guide covers the whole series. Please note that sets are also available, which include the student book and teacher guide at a discount.
