Reason for Handwriting K Student Workbook
Please note that this workbook has been discontinued and replaced with a new edition. Please see #043931 or #043944.
This previous edition Kindergarten workbook has been replaced with two new workbooks - one for PK/K and one for K. If your child would benefit from additional motor skill development and basic stroke practice, look at #043944 - A Reason for Handwriting PK Letter Introduction. This resource holds 24 pages of motor skill building activities and 52 two-page lessons that focus on introducing the lowercase and uppercase letters. If your student is more advanced, consider the new K workbook, titled A Reason for Handwriting K Basic Manuscript (#043931). This workbook provides ten pages of prewriting skills and review, followed by 33 week-long lessons.
Using a 5-day schedule,
Level K teaches proper manuscript letter formation, focusing on each basic stroke by first
tracing dotted lines. Step-by-step, as children become confident in writing
letters of the alphabet, their sounds are reinforced and whole words are put
together and practiced. 144 pgs, pb.
A Reason For Handwriting Level K begins with exercises to practice the mechanics of handwriting (such as making circles and straight or slanted lines). After eight such lessons, the student work text then proceeds to lowercase letter formation and practice, followed by upper case. There are 52 two-page lessons focusing on each letter of the alphabet in upper and lower case, with nine two-page review lessons appearing periodically through the course of the work. The book concludes with four two-page review lessons.
These materials are graded specifically and include both instruction and practice.
An appealing, full-color Christian handwriting program that provides instruction and practice in handwriting (traditional style) with about 30 lessons per level (except for K which has 49). Each level has a letter designation, with a whole book for transition from manuscript to cursive in between B and C. The newly updated 2023 Transition book (Level T) is designed to replace either Level B (preferred) or Level C (a later transition for students needing extra manuscript practice) facilitating a mid-year transition from manuscript to cursive. Starting in Book C, all handwriting is cursive. In the more advanced levels, discussion questions accompany the weekly Bible verse. One more issue to note is the height of the lines; they are smaller in the cursive section of the Transition Book or Book C (3/8") than in the previous books (manuscript books have 5/8" lines). Each student workbook (except K level) contains a large back section of border sheets (nicely lined and bordered papers…one per lesson) as a weekly challenge for students to write their scripture verses on them "in their best handwriting." (Scripture verses are taken from the Living Bible.) The student desk card shows manuscript and cursive letters on a personal-sized card, or you can put the big letters up on the wall using the alphabet wall sheets. One comprehensive teacher's guide covers the whole series. Please note that sets are also available, which include the student book and teacher guide at a discount.
