Good instruction but not your typical cursive
I love the straightforward instruction from HWOT like helpful word pictures to form letters. Didn't realize that it doesn't teach traditional cursive which makes sense for writing today, but more challenging for kids to translate skills to reading cursive that others write. Switched to a different cursive program after this and with subsequent kids, but haven't found anything that breaks the concepts down as well as this one.

Great tool
This book has been a wonderful way for my 3rd grader to learn cursive. It is not overwhelming and the skills build on each other bit by bit. He was so excited when he wrote his first cursive word, dad! I highly recommend this book!

Good solid handwriting book.
I've been very impressed with this handwriting book. I was looking for something for my dyslexic 12 yr. old. I feel like this one isn't too babyish. He knew the letters but needed help practicing how to connect them to form words. This fit the bill.

Great for emotionally charged perfectionists!
I’d recommend it! My daughter cries easily when frustrated. This book has been smooth sailing. She can do it in her own, and is so proud of her lovely handwriting! The only downside is the unexciting cover, but the lessons are great.

Handwriting Without Tears
We have always used the Handwriting Without Tears (12 years of homeschooling!). It's easy and to the point. Even my son who has some fine motor skills problems likes it. We did delay his learning cursive a couple years, but now he is whizzing through the book!

Why did you choose this?

My son has dysgraphia and dyslexia, and this program has been the best handwriting program that we've used to help with his legibility/readability. He enjoys it too.

Have used HWT for 9 years. Pleased with each level. Wish they used Biblical content, but love the approach.

recommendation of OT

to-the-point to teach cursive

Do you need the teacher's guide?

I didn’t use it with my third grader. We had been using HWOT the whole way and didn’t need it for this, she just followed the example strokes.

What's the difference between Cursive Handwriting and Cursive Success?

The cursive handwriting book is considered 3rd grade or the first book of cursive. It introduces cursive slowly. Where the cursive success book is considered 4th grade or the second book of cursive. It re-introduces cursive letters and moves a little more quickly through the letters and has more words and sentences than the cursive handwriting book.
