Excellent Value and Outstanding Approach to Drawing
For such a small price, this is a gem! I used it to educate all 8 of my children in how to express ideas accurately through drawing. I did so without having to be an artist myself. The author teaches the seven laws of perspective, position, and alignment through 37 lessons containing 6 drawings each. I had my kids copy them (not trace) M-Th, then reproduce them without looking on Friday. I ordered more of these for my grandchildren to learn from.

A great basic drawing foundation! Students gain confidence and skill in learning to represent objects 3 dimensionally. Good for all ages.
My favorite basic book on learning to draw three dimensionally. I've used it for years in homeschool drawing classes. I'm so glad it's still available! Mark Kistler expands on the instruction in the Drawing Textbook in his book Draw Squad, a fun and imaginative approach.

Loving this guide to drawing!
Everyone in our household, from PreK to adult, is loving this process. So simple and inexpensive, yet so necessary. I have spent far more on individual art lessons that accomplished far less.

Fabulous instruction
Simply the best art program I have ever seen. Nothing fancy, just fun, bite-sized, targeted lessons that teach essential, solid foundational drawing skills. The lessons are approachable, easily accomplished, super fun and the skills are built up in small, meaningful, manageable increments. My kids BEG to do art from this book every day. I find it easy to stay on track with the lessons because the results come fast and easily to my kids ( I suspect any person would find the same success following the program). The content gives a top-notch drawing education in such an easy and straightforward manner. This is a definite two thumbs up. You can’t go wrong with this purchase.

Finally I found a book that gives me an easy understanding of the foundation of drawing.
I love this book. We are doing one drawing every day. My child who was reluctant to "express himself" with drawing without any foundation over the topic, has developed a good and positive
approach towards drawing.

Why did you choose this?

Looked like a good fit for younger learners or beginners with simple and easy to understand instructions. Seems like it should be frustration free.

I love this book! Used it decades ago when I homeschooled my kids, now I'm getting ready to teach grade 5 and want to incorporate it into our day.

I think this was recommended by a Charlotte Mason blogger.

I tried for years to teach my kids how to draw, but I didn't know how myself. This man's philosophy is that just as we expect everyone to be able to do basic math and have basic literacy levels, we…

I used this book through many years of homeschooling. This year I finish my teaching career and want to go back and study more on what interested me “in school”.
I’m so happy to find this book and so easily.
I thought there was a dvd that went along with it. If I remember right the kids and I watched it while practicing.
Can anyone help me on this??
Anyone remember.

As far as I know, Drawing Textbook does not have a DVD. Maybe look into "I Can Do All Things" by Barry Stebbing if a DVD component is important.

what supplies do I need to purchase with this?

I bought a drawing board for each of my kids and a stack of large blank white paper sheets ( all from Rainbow Resources). My kids use their regular pencils to do the drawings. No fancy or expensive art supplies needed for this outstanding program, and the results are incredible.
