Even though we just started using this book this year, I absolutely love it. It has everything you could need for a complete spelling program except the notebook your child will be writing in. The spelling lists are grouped by grade level, which makes it extremely easy to use. How much teacher/parent preparation needed depends on the age of your children and how you choose to do it. For younger kids, you may want to write the list for them to copy, and write down what activities they need to do. For older kids, you can just tell them which list and allow them to choose the activities they do. I like to combine subjects whenever possible, and the activities do just that. While practicing spelling, they're also practicing dictionary skills, grammar skills, writing, and vocabulary. My daughter (9 years old) used to get very bored with her spelling work, but with 49 activities to choose from (not counting the activities for Greek & Latin roots) there is variety each week. She has never liked anything we bought for spelling, until this year. I only wish I had found it years ago and saved myself the constant battle with my daughter. I will also be using this with my son (3 years old) when he's old enough to start a spelling program. It may seem a bit expensive at first glance, but considering everything it covers and the fact that it has spelling lists for eight grades, it is definitely worth the price. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a good spelling program. This is the best spelling book I've seen!

This is great in that you have just one book for grades k-8! And it's not bulky! I like the freedom in how you can use it, like what exercises to give out to your children. I've used Rod and Staff spelling and even though it's very thorough, we thought there was so much to do that we weren't having a good time at all! And I think spelling should be fun! Well, this is fun.

With 7 kids to eventually homeschool, I'm always on the lookout for quality programs I can use for all of them. Natural Speller is easy to use at different levels. Just choose lists from the grade level your child is at. You can tailor make your lessons by choosing different activities such as putting words in alphabetical order, dividing the words by syllables, adding endings and prefixes, defining the words using a dictionary just to name a few. I love the fact that I don't have to buy more workbooks every year!
