As the number of homeschoolers grows, the number of homeschoolers producing their own materials for publication has grown as well. And the quality of the materials has also improved. Take Considering God’s Creation, for instance, co-authored by Sue Mortimer and her sister Betty Smith. Betty and Sue were homeschool students themselves, as missionary kids, and Sue has homeschooled her own three children as well as teaching 28 other kids whose parents were attending Wycliffe Bible Center. So, in their spare time, they decided to write a science program, from a Biblical perspective that would be easy to implement in a homeschool setting. The results of their efforts are excellent. The program was originally published in 1992, and has been revised several times over the years. At present, the program consists of three parts: teacher’s manual, student workbook, and a CD. For each of the 36 lessons, the teacher’s manual gives information on preparation (materials needed - generally common school and household items), vocabulary (showing root word meaning and origin), introduction (basics of what the lesson covers), an original song or poem about the subject, an activity, related Bible verses, notebook (worksheets), review questions, evolution stumper (scientific finds that support creation), and digging deeper (suggested reading in other books) or some other outside activity. An accompanying tape contains all the songs used in the lessons.

The student workbook relates to the teacher notebook section. Actually, I would call these learning pages, since each one contains a wealth of information on each of the subjects covered. Besides drawing, or filling in these pages, some require cutting out objects and pasting them in the appropriate place. For instance, one exercise requires students to glue symbols of body activity onto the brain in the place where the brain controls each activity.

The 1-year course covers a broad range of subjects including astronomy, earth science, plants, animals, and the human body. Revised in 2006.

This will be our first year of homeschooling. Because my children's grade levels are far apart (7th and 4th), I was stressing over what to use for Science. A friend of mine gave me this curriculum, and I was amazed at how well it is laid out, and how easy it is to teach multi grade levels with this curriculum. It is Biblically based and teaches your child how to look up scriptures to show them that everything in our world is made by the Creator Himself. This is a really good Earth and Life Science curriculum. It is not boring or dry but fun and enjoyable. I do not care for science, but find myself looking forward to teaching this curriculum. If your child does not like to cut and paste or is not an arts and crafts kind of child, then they would not like this because it does do a lot of cutting and pasting. other than that though, this is a wonderful curriculum that I would recommend to anyone. The teacher's manual is so easily laid out that it teaches itself.

Considering God's Creation has been a very great blessing. We will put text books away for life in the elementary school years and get out in God's glorious creation. I've asked my children what subject they like best and it's SCIENCE. My older children ask why I didn't find this when they were going through elementary science. They talk about the things we study in the car. Most of the things that it requires extra are as easy as boiling an egg or finding some rocks. I'm using it for my 10 and 7 year old but if I had others a little younger or older I would not refrain from using it for them. I have a son who is a thinker and a daughter who is a hands on learner and it has been easy to use with both. It has every thing I need, covers a variety of topics and the price is right.

This is the most amazing Science curriculum and an absolutely "must have" for anyone! NO STRESS for mom as the the manual is so simply laid out. Even if you already have your science curriculum for this year the teacher and student set of workbooks for only $30 would be an amazing supplement because of the multitude of hands on activities, and this book is for use over multiple years. I have one son age 6, but I can see how easily this could be used with several children with multiple age ranges from 1st - 12th! Lessons are so easy to explain, not overwhelming. This is a Biblically based program. They have recommended scriptures in every subject to show how God is an integral part in every field of science! Last year I purchased this program and it inspired us to start a science notebook because all the cut outs and instructions are right there. You simply read about the subject, color the item, paste and label it. You also have permission to copy it for others in your family. My son was only 5 years old when we started this book. He absolutely loved it! In fact I used this program as the "dangled carrot" to get my sons less favorite reading subject finished. I have left a lot of space for each subject in our notebook so we can add new information in the coming years. My son is sooo proud of this notebook that he shows it to everyone (which then reinforces what he has learned!). We LOVE this program!!
