This is a unique book that tells about the lives of children from around the world. The authors, Anabel and Barnabas Kindersley, spent two years traveling to more than 30 countries, photographing and learning the stories of children from all different cultures. The children live in places as diverse as New York, Mongolia, and the Amazon Basin. Children from industrialized countries, developing nations, busy cities, rural communities, tribal cultures, and more are included. Most of the children have families, but one lives in a monastery and one lives in an orphanage. The book is broken into regions (Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia, Southeast Asia/Australasia), and then unique children from each region get a one or two-page spread to tell about their lives. The book includes tons of photographs and shows and describes their family, home, clothes, food, friends, favorite games, chores, and other aspects of their daily life. Lots of full-color photographs accompany the information, and quotes from the kids, along with pictures of their prized possessions, really let the reader get a feel for what their life is like. Most of the information is given in the captions of the photos, besides a little intro about how old the child is, where they live, and how their family supports itself. The kids are 6-11 years old, and while they have a large variety of backgrounds, beliefs, and cultures, it is interesting to see how much they have in common. 6-10 children are included from every region. A very captivating book about children from around the world. 80 pgs, hc. ~ Rachel

Aubrey H. from Michigan wrote the following on 04/02/2008:
My children love this book. We checked it out from the library so many times, I eventually had to buy our own copy. We used it as a supplement to Galloping the Globe, but they always wanted more pages once we finished the one that went with our geography study. It is very carefully written, addressing cultural differences with sensitivity, and the pictures and names make far away places very personal to the reader.
