Beautiful! Growing up is difficult enough, but surrounded by war is the toughest way to grow up. Set in the Civil War, this book is perfect for middle school students to read on their own. My sons enjoyed it tremendously!

This was a great book that the whole family enjoyed listening to. I think it really put perspective on the Civil War and how each side had some valid reasons for its point of view. It also explained the family side of the war with families split up on different sides. It is well written literature and valuable to read, IMHO, even if you aren't learning about the America's Civil War - we read it twice and the first time was when we were still in early American history. My 2 yo only sort of paid attention but my 11 yo son and my 9 yo daughter enjoyed it.
