As the number of resources available on the Internet continues to grow, so too have the possibilities for web-based activities and lesson plans. This Internet resource guide systematically organizes carefully selected websites into useful categories: art, music, government, history/social studies, science, geography/environment, language arts, math, lesson plans, technology, and teaching. Subject specific categories typically include at least one website containing shared lesson plans and activities. Several categories, such as student diversity, classroom management, funding, and job-hunting, are specifically intended for public school teachers. The URL, or Internet address, of each website is followed by a short 2-3 sentence summary and review.
You’d probably be able to find everything in this book by searching the Internet yourself. What this resource guide will save you, however, is time and frustration. If you’ve ever spent hours on the Internet weeding through good and bad search results, you’ll appreciate the author’s efforts to include only high-quality sites in this book. A CD-ROM containing hyperlinks to all 1001 websites is included with this resource guide. It can be used with either Macintosh or Windows. The author recommends using the CD to access websites (as opposed to using a browser and typing in the URL) because the CD links to the Teacher Created Materials website, which verifies and updates Internet addresses on a monthly basis. Since you must be online to use the CD, I actually prefer to skip the CD. It’s much easier to access updated URLs by directly connecting to the Teacher Created Materials website and entering the 4-digit book code. ~ Anh
