Song School Latin Book 1 Student Text and Song CD

I used Song School Latin when homeschooling my older grandchildren (then 1-3rd grades). They loved it and learned so much. Now, I'm using it with my younger set of grands (2nd an 6th graders and they enjoy it just as much. We've only just begun but their enthusiasm is delightful. Thank you for making this "dead" (ha!) language so lively.

My girls have enjoyed Latin all this year because the curriculum is fun and easy to use.

A great introduction to latin for lower primary students.
Both ecclesiastical and classical pronounciations included.
The simple songs are a fun way to learn and practice vocabulary, especially for those young students who like to dance and sing!

I tried this course as an experiment with my daughter and was surprised at how much she loved it. She says it is her favorite subject. The songs and lessons make it fun it fun to learn. Since I have zero experience in Latin, I bought the teacher's guide. While it is great to have the extra lesson in the back, I do not plan on purchasing it for the next level as the lesson are so well laid out, you do not need it. Great way for both of us to learn some Latin.

Kids have been loving the Latin. I think it's a great introduction for small kids.

The lessons are short, simple and easy to follow. Most importantly, my kids enjoy them. My kids are 8, 6, 4 and 22 months. The older 2 do the assignments in the work book and watch the DVD. My 4 yr. old watches the dvd and listens to the cd. Definately get the DVD set.

I love this product. My 8 year old (second grader) is learning quite a bit from it, but she doesn't care for the CD. She considers the songs 'babyish.' I don't think they sound too babyish, and she IS a willing participant when I ask her to sit down and do Latin each day - she just insists that no one else be present when she listens to the CD, out of embarrassment, I suppose. I think the content is perfect for her age, but I do understand that she might feel the CD adds a 'this is really for a younger kid' element. I, personally, appreciate the CD because I have no idea how to pronounce these words, nor any background in Latin. I just think I missed my window for my child. As I said, she's plugging along AND learning Latin, so really, it's an overall win.

Wow! This is a great product!I fell in love with studying Latin in high school However that was a long time ago But I wanted to pass this beautiful language down to my children So now my children are 6 and 3 years old and I thought it would be a good time to begin I had been shopping around for an appropriate text for a few years and was not excited by the few options I found Fortunately Song School Latin came on the market just in timeEven though my children do not particularly love to sing I was excited about the song element of the program because it is such a painless way to memorize Also the amount of information the children were expected to master seemed appropriate for my 6 year old And it looked like fun--guaranteed to appeal to young children!So I bought Song School Latin at the beginning of the summer I popped the CD into the car and we sang the catchy tunes together all summer It was my childrens' favorite CD through all of our road trips They simply fell in love with it It created great anticipation for learning this new not-so-mysterious-anymore "Latin" they had heard me talking aboutWhen the school year began as the teacher I could not have been happier! The book is so easy to use (The teacher's manual is probably not necessary even if you have no Latin background--it really is that straight-forward) The exercises are just the right length and do not require advance preparation However I have found it helpful to make flashcards for each of the vocabulary words to aid with review timeIf you are considering teaching Latin to young children this is a really great product regardless of your personal experience with the language And it's a great valuePersonally my favorite thing about this program is how my 3 year old is using Latin in his daily life He often greets us with "Salve" (hello) or "Vale" (good-bye) And just this week when engaged in deep conversation about what he is going to become when he grows up he said "When I grow up and become a vir (Latin for "man")" Not only was it really cute but it reinforces my opinion that this program really does work (even for my 3 year old who just listens in the background)!
